The Bradford People’s Assembly started life as the ‘Bradford People’s Coalition Against Cuts’ in 2009 to make against a stand against cuts to local services, benefits, housing and living conditions in the Bradford district of West Yorkshire, England.
In October 2015 we voted to become the Bradford People’s Assembly, aligning ourselves with the national ‘People’s Assembly Against Austerity’ movement. We agreed that we rather than being against austerity, we would instead have a more positive take on the austerity ideology; for example rather than saying we are against austerity – we are in for help being given to those that need it. We regularly hold demonstrations in Bradford and across the district to raise awareness that austerity is not needed and it is ideologically driven and it is leading to the deaths of many people in Bradford and further afield.
We welcome anyone that wants to join the fight to end austerity and help to create a more equal and fairer place for us all to live in. Many members of our group are in other political groups including the Woodcraft Folk, Green Party, Socialist Worker, Labour Party, Socialist Party, Trade Unions and Trades Council’s. We hold a monthly meeting that is open to all to join us and to contribute and we like to provide a warm welcoming environment where we encourage participation from those that wish to take part. If you cannot attend the meetings there are many other ways you can get involved.
Please get in touch if there is a project we are working on that you would like to be involved in or if you have any skills that you would like to use with us.
